Dana Air crash: TV stations to appear again tomorrow

THE coroner presiding over the inquest into the death of 153 passengers of the ill-fated Dana Air plane which crashed in Iju/Ishaga area of Lagos State on June 3, Mr Alexander Komolafe, on Monday, re-scheduled the appearances of Television Continental, Channels and African Independent Television (AIT), earlier fixed for Monday, till tomorrow, to enable the media houses to show clips of the crash scenes in their library.
The television stations, on Monday, appeared before the court with the tapes to show footage of the scene immediately after the accident, so as to corroborate testimoniƩs given by witnesses that had earlier appeared before the inquest, but failed to come with necessary equipment to play them.
To make necessary preparations, Mr Komolafe adjourned the matter till tomorrow, for all necessary things to be put in place.
Speaking on the development, a counsel from the Ministry of Justice, Akinjide Bakare, said it was better to watch the video in court and jot down questions.
“Let's watch it here and jot down our questions and ask the concerned parties,” he said.
On his part, counsel for Dana Air, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, suggested that more copies of the video tapes be made and circulated.
Ayorinde also urged the court to go through the process and avoid any rush, so that all avenues would be explored.
While adjourning, the coroner directed the television stations to make copies of the video tapes to circulate among the counsel and come to court with the equipment to show the clips at the next adjournment.
He further said the video tapes could not be accepted as exhibits until they were showed in court for parties to see.
