'I love him': Teenager defies racist parents who beat her for having a black boyfriend by moving in with him

A teenager beaten by her parents for having a black boyfriend has moved in with him and defied her parents declaring, 'I love him'.
Jane Champion was attacked by her parents David and Frances Champion after they returned home and found her in a 'state of undress' with Alfonce Ncube.
They repeatedly punched their 17-year-old daughter in the face and shouted racist abuse while kicking her boyfriend out of the family home.
However, since her parents were jailed for the attack she's moved in with Alfonce in a flat in Swansea while the pair study at the city's university.

Assaulted by her parents: Jane Champion was hit and punched in the face by her father and mother for having a relationship with a black man After throwing the waiter out of the house, Mr Champion, 50, grabbed his daughter by her hair and started to hit her, prosecutor Nicola Powell said during the court case.

‘He told her she was destroying the family and pushed her out of the door, Champion shouting racist language to describe Mr Ncube,’ she added.
Jane went to stay with her grandmother but returned to her parents in St Thomas, Swansea, once the situation had apparently calmed down.
But a month later her parents challenged her over Mr Ncube when they returned from a pub.
‘David Champion asked his daughter if she was still seeing Mr Ncube. When she told him she was, he punched her in the face,’ said Miss Powell.
‘Miss Champion said she felt huge pain to her left eye but her father then grabbed her by the throat and continued hitting her.’
Mrs Champion, 47, then began hitting her daughter – causing swelling on her face and lumps on her head – yelling abuse at the teenager saying: ‘You deserve it. It is all your fault.’ Swansea Crown Court was told Mrs Champion said her daughter had ‘brought shame on her family’.
The couple then went in search of Mr Ncube at the Swansea restaurant where he worked.
When they were removed from the premises Mrs Champion continued to bang on the restaurant window. John Hipkin, defending her husband, said his client knew that it was an ‘abhorrent’ assault, adding: ‘It’s not excusable in any way, shape or form.
‘But the circumstances in which he found his young daughter meant he reacted in a terrible way. Lessons have been learned.’
Georgina Buckley, defending Mrs Champion, said: ‘She accepts her actions were fuelled by alcohol and that she confronted her daughter in a wholly unacceptable and disgusting way.
‘She is remorseful and her daughter has sent her a text message before the court hearing wishing her well.’

Jailed for the 'vile' attack: Father David Champion (right) was sentenced to 12 months in jail and mother Frances (left) to nine months after punching and hitting their 17-year-old daughter and kicking her boyfriend
Judge Peter Heywood told the couple: ‘Your behaviour was disgraceful and you used vile language.
‘We live in a liberal and enlightened society and these sorts of racist behaviour cannot be tolerated. The way you reacted was totally inappropriate.
‘I would be failing in my public duty if I was to do anything other than impose a custodial sentence.’
Mr Champion was sentenced to 12 months in prison and his wife to nine months. Both admitted assaulting their daughter.
Mr Champion also pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated assault against Mr Ncube and his wife admitted a racial abuse charge.'You deserve it': Jane was punched in the face by her father after admitting she was still dating Mr Ncube. Her mother also hit her, saying 'you deserve it. It is all your fault.'

The couple have another daughter, who is 12.
The court heard that Mr Ncube suffered a dead leg in the first attack after being kicked by Mr Champion.
Jane, who is studying sports science at college, suffered bleeding from her ear in the second attack at the hands of her mother. She met Mr Ncube at the college and the pair have been dating for two years. He moved from his native Zimbabwe to Southend in Essex when he was eight.
Miss Champion said her parents had apologised for their actions and she had forgiven them.
She told the Mail: ‘I have seen my parents a few times since they were arrested and they are very sorry for what they did. I don’t know why they did it. Alfie and I love each other very much.’
Her parents originally pleaded not guilty to charges in two earlier appearances but later changed their plea to avoid a trial.
Speaking outside the family’s terraced house on a quiet street in Swansea, a relative said they wanted to reunite Jane with her parents.
The family spokesman said: ‘We’re trying to get the family back together again. We are working on getting Jane and her parents back speaking.
‘It’s been a terrible case for everyone involved. Now we just want to put it all behind us'.

Gunmen attack central Nigeria church preparing for Bible study, killing 19 and wounding others

Two gunmen sprayed the windowless sanctuary Monday night with fire from Kalashnikov assault rifles, said Lt. Col. Gabriel Olorunyomi, the head of a local joint army and police unit.
Another armed man stayed back and switched off the generator providing lights in the church, leaving those inside unable to flee as the gunfire flashed through the darkness, witness Lawan Saliu said. Saliu, who suffered gunshot wounds to the stomach, spoke from a hospital bed Tuesday.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but the violence came as Nigeria is facing attacks from a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram.
Olorunyomi said 15 people died in the church and four died later from their injuries. He said the number of wounded remained unknown, but that some of them sought care in hospitals, while others remained at home. A rescue official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that probably fewer than 20 people were wounded in the attack.
Soldiers and police officers searched for gunmen through Monday night, but had made no arrests on Tuesday, said Kogi state police spokesman Simon Ile.
Later on Tuesday, three gunmen on a motorcycle shot at a military patrol vehicle in Okene, said Olorunyomi. Police said two soldiers were killed in the attack.
Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is sacrilege” in the Hausa language of Nigeria’s mostly Muslim north, has attacked churches in the past. The sect has also has attacked mosques. However, Boko Haram has not previously claimed responsibility for attacks on places of worship this far south.
The national chief of police, Mohammed Abubakar, said in a statement Tuesday that he has ordered a 24-hour surveillance of all places of worship in the central state of Kogi state, which has not suffered such attacks.
In April, however, authorities there raided a bomb factory run by suspected sect members. They also blamed Boko Haram for a February prison break in the Kogi town of Koton-Karifi that freed 119 inmates. That attack mirrored a massive prison break in the northeastern city of Bauchi in September 2010 when Boko Haram freed about 700 inmates.
The sect is blamed for more than 660 killings this year alone in Nigeria, according to an Associated Press count.
Nigeria, a nation of more than 160 million people, is divided between a predominantly Muslim north and mainly Christian south. While members of the two faiths often live and work together, and intermarry, Boko Haram attacks have increased religious tensions in the nation over the last year.

Justin Bieber Shows Off His Acting Skills In New Video 'As Long As You Love Me'

Justin Bieber
We have to wonder if Justin Bieber asked his girlfriend for acting tips while making his new music video "As Long As You Love Me."
Bieber has acted before. In 2010 and 2011 he played a troubled teen in two episodes of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
In his new video, the pop star is battered and bruised after getting beat up by "Reservoir Dogs" star Michael Madsen, who play's his girlfriend's overprotective father.
Rapper Big Sean also makes an appearance, and the video features a lot of girls, fighting, and rapping. The 18-year-old Bieber is definitely making the transition from kid to adult.
In March, the singer showed off his more mature side in the "Boyfriend" music video in which he drives sexy cars and wraps his arms around a sexy girl who looks very similar to his real-life girlfriend Selena.

Nigeria: Panic in Kano As Police Uncover Four Fresh Bombs

Policemen from bomb disposal unit.
There was pandemonium in Kano Wednesday following the discovery of four high-caliber improvised explosive devices behind a popular bakery located along Bayero University Kano (BUK) Road.
Eyewitness told our correspondent that at least four high caliber IEDs were discovered around the vicinity of the Bakery at Janbulo Housing Estate by a resident of the area who immediately alerted the police.
Our correspondent reports that there was a similar discovery Tuesday morning at the lecture hall of the Federal College of Education, Kano, that led to panic among the community and total disruption of academic activities at the institution.
The incident at the Federal College of Education (FCE) had caused panic among motorists and commuters heading towards the area who were forced to change route for their personal safety, as security deployed to the area cordoned off the area while detonating the IEDs.
It was gathered that the discovery of the IEDs along the strategic Kano-Gwarzo Road halted movement towards the area as traffic was diverted from the road, which further aggravated people's fear.

However, the police authorities in Kano had admonished people to continue with their normal activities as there was no cause for alarm.
Kano State police public relations officer DSP Rilwanu Muhammad Dutse said "there was no fresh bomb uncovered in the area." What happened, he said, was "leftover of some IEDs used by the extremists in a failed attack on our patrol vehicle last Sunday".
Rilwanu Dutse also said that "the deployment of an anti-bomb squad to the scene on Wednesday was principally to defuse the IEDs".
He said a sponsored message on one of the local radio stations was aired forewarning members of the public not to panic upon hearing a loud sound of the detonated bombs.
He called on the general public to go about their normal business without fear or molestation as the police are ready to protect both the lives and property of the citizenry.

Nigeria: Spice Up Your NYSC Look

"Khaki no be leather," the average Nigerian man will say. And he'd be absolutely right. Not just literally, but in actual sense of the word.
Not just in the difference between the stretchy material made from animal hide, and the synthetic fibre that shrinks when washed, but also in the fact that the latter represents a symbol of the Nigerian graduate, a National Youth Service Corps member...one who may not be spoiled for fashion choice on the day she wears her uniform. What's a corps member to do? Nothing, apart from follow these simple steps:
Cleanliness first: This cannot be overrated. With only colours white and green to work with, you don't have much of a choice. Spotless shoes, socks and everything else makes number one fashion sense!

The right size: If you want to keep on wearing your khaki at least till the end of your service year, do bear in mind that it shrinks when washed. So even though you want to slim fit it till you get the right size, you might want to loosen up a little.

Jewelry and make up: Please don't overdo the jewelry, maintain the sanctity of the uniform! But your face! It's yours baby! Go overboard...just a little, that's almost all you have to work with.
A touch of mascara, and eye shadow (it doesn't have to be green) will do fine around the eyes. Stay off the brown powder except in extreme circumstances for the sake of the white tee shirts around.

Hair: Won't it be great to do a new hairstyle every time you have to wear your uniform? Well, that's almost impossible, so go the extra mile with whatever you have on at the moment. Beautiful hair accessories will make all the difference here!
